Press Gallery - Old Parliament House

Client: Old Parliament House

Location: Canberra, ACT

Completed: 2007

Convergence designed and installed this permanent exhibition for the Press Gallery at Old Parliament House, Canberra. The brief was to develop a design that combined elements of re-creation with a more contemporary approach within the fabric of the existing building. The exhibition was to reflect the crowded and sometimes chaotic nature of day-to-day workings of the Press Gallery.

The response is evocative, with a paper sculpture that spirals from the lower floor up through the stair well leading visitors to the press boxes, the hub of activity for the Gallery.

From there, visitors experience a variety of room recreations and ‘exhibition boxes’ that explore themes relating to the day-to-day work of the Press Gallery through ‘leaks, scoops and scandals’.
