Wild Asia - Asian Rainforest Precinct
Client: Taronga Zoo
Location: Sydney, NSW
Completed: 2005
Taronga Zoo began redevelopment of the Asian Rainforest Precinct as part of their masterplan redevelopment program in 2002, with the project being completed in 2005. Convergence was appointed in association with Jackson Teece Architecture and Green and Dale Landscape Design to develop the interpretation, exhibit theming and wayfinding for the entire Wild Asia precinct.
Incorporating a new Asian Elephant enclosure, new Hillside Link building, eight other Asian Animal enclosures as well as the Village Terrace and Learning precincts this was a massive and complex project. Convergence undertook all aspects of the interpretative and thematic design from concept through to full documentation and project oversight.
Convergence liaised with zoo staff, keepers and a wide range of specialist sub-consultants to deliver the project. The interpretation includes many innovative elements, integrated into both the architecture and the enclosure design to deliver a seamless visitor experience.
