Bonegilla Migrant Experience - ID Cards Exhibition

It is estimated that 1 in 20 Australians are connected to Bonegilla Migrant Camp which ran from 1941 until 1971.

To celebrate Bonegilla’s 75th anniversary, Convergence was contracted to design a new permanent exhibition showcasing the now digitally archived ID cards that migrants received on arrival at the camp.

The interactive exhibition occupies the heritage listed recreation hut at Bonegilla and celebrates the individuals who went through and the stories of their stay and beginnings in Australia.

Awards:

Museums and Galleries National Awards - 2023 winner permanent exhibition or gallery fit-out.

Victorian Museums and Galleries Awards 2023 - Highly Commended.

The judges commended Bonegilla Migrant Experience for their innovative design and interactive elements that immerse visitors in the migrant experience, encouraging reflection and engagement. The exhibition also showcases the project's collaborative nature and the possibilities of collections digitisation for future exhibitions.
