Sovereign Hill Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections and Centre for Rare and Forgotten

Client: Sovereign Hill Museums Association Location: Ballarat, Victoria Completed:
Convergence proposed an interpretive kit of parts to be iteratively applied as Sovereign Hill’s former Gold Museum is redeveloped to accommodate the ACGRC and CRAFT.  The system, developed to schematic design stage, responds to Sovereign Hill’s new focus on stories of humanity and accessibility.   Convergence’s interpretive elements will complement and unite Spowers’ design for workshop and storage spaces. The interpretive and architectural design will provide a welcoming, inclusive, and delightful environment where makers and students can learn, fabricate and display.
The interpretive display for the ACGRC will encourage visitors to discover and interact with the riches of the collection. Interpretive display proposals for both CRAFT and ACGRC will allow for an updatable kit of parts that will include community led display of objects, materials, tools and users. Redevelopment of the former Gold Museum is planned for completion by end 2022.
