Australian Remembrance Trail, Lemnos Interpretive Design

Client: Department of Veterans Affairs

Location: Lemnos, Greece

Completed: Stage 1 Scoping Study 2020; Stage 2 Business Case, 2021; Stage 3 Implementation in progress, due for completion 2024

Convergence has been working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to increase awareness and interpret the significant role that Australians on the Greek island of Lemnos played in the First World War Gallipoli campaign.

In an initial scoping study, we developed and evaluated an interpretive strategy based on an accessible on-island and online visitor experience. We established the historical overview and narrative and identified, assessed and recommended appropriate interpretive experiences to commemorate the significant cultural heritage of this remote place.

In a second stage of the project Convergence developed the initial concept to include an interpretive toolkit and documented the preferred physical and digital elements. Visualisations and documentation formed the basis of a successful business case.

Funding for the project was announced in the 2022 Federal budget and Convergence engaged to bring the project to completion.
