The Roxy Cinema Complex and Greek Museum

Client: Gwydir Shire Location: Bingara, NSW, Australia Completed: 2014
Built in 1936 by Greek immigrants, the Roxy development is a living monument to a shared Greek -Australian history. The Roxy enterprise illustrates the outstanding contribution of the Greek community in Australia and celebrates a magnificent Art Deco building. It epitomizes a transcendent human tale of immigration, resettlement and new nation building. The focus of the brief was to provide an integrated theatre and interpretive visitor experience linked to Council’s objectives for financial sustainability. Museum spaces were identified but it was agreed that all parts of the theatre and adjacent café should be included in the interpretive strategy.
