Richmond Maltings Heritage Interpretation Strategy

Client: Caydon Property Group Location: Richmond, VIC, Australia Completed: 2017

The Richmond Maltings site, better known to Melbournians as the site of the Nylex clock was continuously used by the malt and brewing industry from 1852 until it was finally vacated in the mid 20-teens. The site is currently undergoing a major redevelopment that will combine residential, office, retail uses with public spaces.

Convergence developed an overall Heritage Interpretation Strategy that will guide interpretation of the historic nature of the site, including the iconic clock. The strategy embeds an appreciation of the historic nature of Richmond and inner city Melbourne and its residents as the heart of a city that grew rich on industry and will ensure an ongoing appreciation of the importance of this site to Melbourne’s development.

I'm high on the hill
Looking over the bridge
To the M.C.G.
And way up on high
The clock on the silo
Says eleven degrees
