Client: City of Greater Bendigo Location: Bendigo, VIC, Australia Completed: 2000
To celebrate the Centenary of Federation the Bendigo Council and Federal Government commissioned Convergence to design ‘Making a Nation’, an exhibition which focuses on the lead up to and the achievement of Federation on the 1st of January 1901 and the role played in its development by prominent Bendigo politician Sir John Quick. The exhibition is housed in the heritage listed Bendigo Post Office and covers the main post office chamber, with additional contemporary display and community facilities in the basement. There is a focus on interactive exhibits explaining the lead up to Federation and stories of how Bendigo and its citizens have contributed to the Nation in areas such as mining, literature, civics, banking and many other areas of national endeavour from the 1900’s to today. A key feature of the exhibition is a lecture and debating studio where public lectures and talks are delivered. Convergence was responsible for planning, design and implementation of the exhibition.
